Good cleaning powder, a little strong for very sensitive skin

I have very sensitive facial skin prone to acne and rosacea-like patches. I began using this night and day, as directed, for about 1 week. It cleanses well and thoroughly, without making my skin too dry or "tight." I feel that the dead skin cells are sloughed off nicely, and my face feels fresh. However, I feel that washing twice a day (as indicated in directions) may be too much for very sensitive skin. I would highly recommend washing using this once at night, before bed, to remove impurities on your facial skin which may have accumulated a lot during the day, and plus it would probably be better to use at night anyway since the alpha-hydroxy acid would make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. I'd recommend just washing with a very gentle cleanser (or even just water!) in the morning. I still have red patches and bumps on my skin, so it doesn't seem to be creating a drastic improvement in my skin, at least for the past week, that's why I'm giving it 3 stars. I'm planning on using it for another week or so, but using it only *one* time daily, only at night before I sleep.Note: you should make sure to wear a good sunscreen since using any products with AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

I am a complete devotee of Alpha Hydrox products in general, and the foaming face wash in particular. It removes makeup with no sting to the eyes and cleans gently and well. I just wish I could still buy it in stores. No one seems to carry it anymore. We must keep them in business! Buy this!!

I've used Alpha Hydrox products for over twenty years. I've tried other products now and again, but always come back to them because I find them the BEST skin care products out there. This wash always leaves my skin clean, baby soft and helps keep is soft and clear. I have teens and between us we use the A.H. acne treatment, lightner, lotion, etc. GREAT PRODUCTS at a GREAT PRICE!

I purchased this product, along with the lotion, on the recommendation of my esthetician who said it would "go a long way towards preventing aging." I'm pretty much a beauty product lazy bones, and prior to using these I rarely even washed my face before bed--reason being, that I doubted most products really DID much of anything. But I decided to give it and the lotion a try.WELL, this product made a noticeable difference in my skin the very first time I used it. My acne instantly began clearing up and the acne discolorations that had long been there started fading. But the most pleasant side effect was that my skin looked a lot plumper and more youthful! I cannot imagine a product performing any better than this.I have to say that I'm really impressed. The price cannot be beat. Also, it did not irritate my notoriously sensitive skin. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

This line is highly rated as state of the art skincare by independent reviewer Paula Begoun (author of "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me.") Basis in the ONLY Cleaner I use! The ONLY cleaner I LIKE! I've tried them all. I don't like the scrubies they put in cleaners, don't like cream washes, just want something that will gently foam up when you get it wet, smells nice and clean and this is IT! I've used Basis for years when I first found in at Wal-mart. Now you can't find in any retail store, at least none that I've looked in. One tube lasts me 6+ months, but I only wash my face in the morning. I buy the 4 pack and it lasts me 2 years so it's great.

I purchased this face wash because it has 5 stars and great reviews on every website that sells this. While I have nothing against this face wash, I'm not particularly impressed by it. My skin doesn't feel much "cleaner" as everyone rants about. I don't like the smell of the wash, it's a little more than "mild", and I'm guessing it's the smell of the botanicals. The wash also doesn't foam much since it's soap-free, I'm not sure how I feel about that.I have normal skin, usually clear, but somewhat sensitive. I prefer my previous face washes to Basis - Liquid Neutrogena, Shiseido The Skincare Purifying Cleansing Foam and St. Ive's Invigorating Apricot Scrub. My skin is definitely more radiant when I use these washes, compared to Basis' wash.

Great for sensitive skin

I have used this Basis gel cleaner for years. I have found only 1 other product that cleans my face without breaking it out or causing blotchiness and that is Aveeno. This Basis cleaner does a good job cleaning your face, smells nice, and is good for sensitive skin. FYI the Basis Sensitive Skin cleanser does not work very well. This face wash is gender neutral (not ultra girlie), so even my husband will use it.I am careful about what I use on my face, and this product works for me. Plus it is a great value. The 6-ounce tube lasts for a long time too, b/c you only need a little to wash your face. The drug stores I shop at have stopped carrying this product, so it's nice to be able to order it here on Amazon.

I stumbled across this product years ago when traveling and had really dry skin from the hotel soaps. It's perfect for the face and only ocassionally leaves my skin a tad dry but less so than any other face wash I have found (I have super sensitive skin). It also has a clean and neutral scent, so it doesn't clash with cologne or aftershaves.If you hate dry skin and want a clean fresh feeling, try this out.

It really works

I tried different products and this one is the only one that works. I'm shaving my head and suffered from some acne spots (more or less severe over the time) for years. I didn't know what to do and than I discovered this stuff. 1-2 weeks after starting with the pads the acne disappeared. The pads were a little bit annoying though, because the plastic can isn't tight (bad for traveling) and I had to wear latex gloves, otherwise my fingers are drying out when touching the pads on a daily basis. [On a different note: You can switch to a bottle of salicylic acid pore cleanser and use paper towels or cotton pads]. I switched to the face wash then, and got the same great results. You have to use them daily though. I use them in the morning, and most important in the evening in the shower. If you have acne maybe as a result from greasy skin, this is definitely your product!

Good stuff, but one of the bottles was crushed and empty upon arrival

This product cleared my skin in just a few days of twice daily use. Also, no new outbreaks have occurred since I began using Oxy Max. Prior to Oxy, I used a prescription wash with 4% benzoyle peroxide. This prescription did not work nearly as well as Oxy. A word of caution; Oxy will definately bleach towels, wash clothes or anything else that contacts it. A few drops of water and Oxy splashed onto a bathmat unnoticed until the next day when small, bleached spots appeared. Other than that, this is an amazing product.

I am 27 years old and I have been using this product for about two years now. Since I was 13 I've pretty much always had acne. But since using this product my skin is so much clearer and I only get a break out or two right before my period. I use it twice a day. When I use it in the shower I lather it onto my face and leave it on there like a mask for about 3-4 minutes. I had to work up to this over a couple weeks. I have used proactive for a while before and for how expensive it is, it does not work very well. Save your money and buy this product instead. I also use Nutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub with it. I use it every morning in the shower right before I use the Oxy acne wash. They work great together. Just a warning, it doesn't matter how well you rince it off your face if you dry your face with a colored towel after use it will bleach it. It will also bleach the towel you put your hair up in. I highly suggest you save your pretty colored towels the agony of being bleached and simply use white towels.

Proactiv is wimpy and never did clear my skin,and I used it for 8 months! This oxy face wash is so much cheaper,and yet,much more effective. I use it in conjunction with Differin,and it works great! It may not be for those sensitive to Benzoyl Peroxide because it is the highest percent you can buy without a prescription.I found that my skin adjusted to it after about two weeks and any irritation I had subsided. Benzoyl peroxide is said to be one the best treatments for acne because it eliminates bacteria without building resistance to it.If your acne doesn't respond to the wimpy 2% versions like proactiv,give this a try! And remember,no acne treatment works overnight!!! It takes a good month or two for the medicine to clear what is beneath your skin waiting to emerge.Any product that claims otherwise is lying,ask any dermatologist who isn't being paid to star in an infomercial!

I have had skin problems my whole life. Not acne, thank you!, but dry skin that cracks and flakes during the late fall and winter months and horribly oily skin in the spring and summer months. I can never figure my skin out :( I have tried everything under the sun and still had the same issues and my skin was starting to have more reddening to the point I thought maybe I was getting rosacea. On a whim I decided to give this product a try because I had had such success with the other KMF products that I was using. It took about 2 weeks for me to really see a noticeable difference but now a month in and I have to say my skin looks and feels incredible. At this time of year I have to immediately put face lotion/moisturizer on my face before my face dries straight from washing it or else it will be very tight and dry and I won't be able to even smile without feeling the skin cracking. If I don't have lotion I have these visible dry peeling patches on my cheeks and forehead. The same areas that are always shiny and oily in the summer are extremely dry and patchy in the winter. Well, with this stuff I don't need lotion anymore. And I've noticed that at the end of the day my skin is not oily or even shiny. This is very odd because I always have a shiny forehead and nose by the end of the day even on days where I had to apply moisturizer to keep from having dry scaly patches on my face.My skin is soooo smooth now and even my husband noticed how much softer and healthier my skin looks. I love this stuff and I love this company. I have very sensitive skin and this wash doesn't seem to bother me at all.I highly recommend this to others and say give it a shot. it took me about 2 weeks to really see a change but once I did it was a total transformation. This product feels so different than your typical exfoliant because there is no grit, no scrubbers, just fruit acids and it smells great too. Give it a shot!

I love love love this stuff! I live in a very dry climate now and this stuff exfoliates without drying my skin out AT ALL! It actually glows afterwards! I started using some KMF products after deciding that I no longer wanted to use products loaded with unnecessary chemicals that are known to be carcinogens etc. I was worried I wouldn't find anything that great but I have to say, everything I have used so far has been awesome!

I've used Neutrogena's equivalent of this product, and this is by far the milder of the two. It only contains a small amount of the menthol that a lot of other manufacturers throw in to leave that cool, clean "invigorating" sensation. This seems to do a great job of keeping my face clear and healthy without such harsh ingredients, and I plan on ordering more of this great product whenever I get low.

I've used Nivea face products for men for several years and have found them to be consistently great products and have no reservations about recommending them. The double action wash cleans my face gently and effectively even after working in the heat and humidity and makes you feel refreshed. I believe this is a new formula and new label, as I think the old one was made in Germany and this one is now made in France and has a little more "mintyness" still very good. I also use the energizing face scrub a couple times a week, that will wake you up.

finally something that works!

I didn't know what to do about my neck, it was embarrasing. It looked like it was "painful" some folks said. I constantly got ingrown hairs and pimples on my neck. I didn't know what to do. I tried medicated aftershaves, some with alcohol in them OUCH!Finally I started doing some research and found that a good cleanser might help me out, so I decided to try this nivea, I had seen commercials for it. I used the cleanser and the balm (aka aftershave). I also made sure that I was doing my best to help the situation by switching my shaving technique. Most importantly shave with the direction your hair grows, not against it, that reduces the inflammation. Rinse with cool water not hot, this also reduces the inflammation. Use a cleanser, I recommend nivea, and a decent aftershave lotion, again I recommend nivea.Within a week or so my neck dramatically improved, it isn't perfect, but it looks and feels much better.

Really like it so far...

I've been suffering from acne since high school, and it seems that as I get older it gets worse (isn't that backwards???). After having tried Proactiv (which dried my face out so much that I wanted to pull my skin off) and Skin ID (didn't help at all, and still dried my face out), I decided to try a more natural product because I was sick of rubbing weird chemicals I couldn't pronounce all over my face. I found out that Burt's Bees had just started selling a new 3-step acne regimen, and I was so sure it would be wonderful. I was not impressed. After using it for months, it was just drying my face out more and more, not taking care of my acne, and causing my face to itch like crazy (maybe an allergic reaction?).So I decided to go a simpler route and try to find a face wash that will take care of my problem without using 3 or 4 different products. I found this product at Whole Foods. It was one of the cheapest face washes that they had, and I had heard good things about Desert Essence, so I bought it. That was about a week and a half ago. So far, I haven't seen a whole lot of progress as far as acne goes, but I think I need to give it more time. It definitely hasn't gotten worse, and I think there is at least some improvement, so that's a good sign. I hated the smell of it at first, but I've gotten used to it, and frankly it can have the worst smell in the world if it works. The smell doesn't linger at all after you rinse it off, so that's great. (One thing I didn't like about Burt's Bees was that the bad small would follow me around for hours...) It's a little drying, but I've been using it twice a day, and it's nowhere near as bad as some other products I've used. As soon as I put a little moisturizer on I'm fine. This face wash leaves a really clean feeling, and it's nice to know that it's a natural and healthy product. The consistency is fine once you get used to how much you need to use, and it lathers a lot better than most other face washes I've used before. So far, I would definitely recommend this product for an everyday face wash. I will update this review once I have a better idea of how it will work for acne.

Great for more than just the face. Cured my dandruff!

I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis (scalp, face) by a dermatologist and was told to use Selsun Blue (selenium sulfide) to treat it. After weeks of no relief (I also tried a pyrithione zinc dandruff shampoo with also no relief), I turned to the internet and found that tea tree oil was an alternative treatment for dandruff so I picked this up at my local Whole Foods (I was turned off of the tea tree shampoos they carried because they contained parabens). Within a week my dandruff disappeared! I have been dandruff-free for months now. I use this regularly (few times a week) to keep my scalp in check. I apply it only to the areas that were affected. This is fantastic for other itchy areas you may get on your body from time to time. Although this has not relieved the symptoms on my face, I am grateful to have at least part of my problem solved. Wonderful product!!

One major flaw

I really wanted to like this cleanser. There are several reasons why anyone should:+ It was $12 at the Vitamin Shoppe. On Amazon, its price usually fluctuates from $10 to $12, including shipping and handling. The bottle itself is 32 ounces. When you do the math, this is definitely a bargain. + On cosmeticsdatabase.com, this product receives a very low toxicity count, which is healthy, and thus good.+ It's 100% vegan. That wasn't a priority for me, but it still helps.+ It has this intoxicating, ginger-citrus aroma that makes washing a refreshing, pleasurable experience. And it looks like liquid gold.+ It has all these good products in it that helps your skin.+ Its watery texture made it gentle on my skin. And it makes a nice little lather, too.However, there are three cons that prevent me from recommending this product:- It watery texture also makes it run out faster. It's hard to keep scooping some into your hands to use on your face without having some of it slip between your fingers. I'm not sure how a 32 ounce supply will last, under these circumstances.- It burns A LOT when you get it in your eye, more than any cleanser has a right to. And it takes a while before it rinses out. So once you do get a searing pain in your eye(s), you have to blunder around in agony for a while until you can reach the sink faucet and clear the cleanser away.- Finally, and WORST OF ALL, THIS CLEANSER CONTAINS COCONUT OIL, WHICH CLOGS PORES. I knew this product was too good to be true. It smells amazing, has all these other nice ingredients in it, and has a great price. BUT it clogs pores. I started using it, and noticed my face breaking out. It was horrifying. Take it from someone who has given up conditioner because it might contain coconut oil--it is a terrible oil to expose your face to. I cannot stress enough how I hate this oil. It is terrible for the face and pores. Nothing can frustrate me more when it comes to my face.And so, I do not recommend this product. If it didn't have coconut oil in it, I would use it for life. However, it does, and so I will not.

Best Product For Skin Care

I started using this product approximately 7 years ago after reading an article promoting Desert Essence products. I have found it the best to handle any type skin. It does it all. Cleanses, conditions, and controls blemishes. It is concentrated and a little bit goes a long way. Your skin feels clean and healthy, not stripped and irritated as some other cleansers.I have always purchased it at the health food store in the smaller pump style at a fairly high price. Until I found it here on Amazon, I didn't realize it came it the large economy size. Price was great, shipping cost was more than reasonable, and I received the product quickly. At this price I can afford to use it for bathing as well. Great product at a fantastic price, need I say more?

Better than acne medications!

I'm 28, and I was complaining until a couple of months ago, until I started using this product, that I was STILL getting some cystic acne.. while starting to get a couple of gray hairs. Life's unfair, right? I've used just about every acne medication out there, including some of the more expensive ones, but they are all pretty much a combination of chemicals and one of two main acne ingredients: Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. The former doesn't seem to work at all on me, and the latter works while giving me super dry, scaley skin. So I tried this after I found it at Trader Joes, and I've been using it exclusively for about two months. No breakouts so far, and I think that's the longest I've gone in about 15 years without a breakout! The product itself IS watery compared to the gel or creams in other products, but I think part of my problem was the chemicals used in those products irritated my skin and actually MADE me break out, so I don't mind. I use it twice a day and my bottle is only halfway gone, so for the people complaining about the price, why? This could last you 4-10 months depending on how much you use it. Love it! I threw out my Neutrogena and Clearasil and my skin is thanking me. :)

Not a great choice

When I got this bottle, I was surprised at its size, at 8 oz it is only 0.4oz smaller than my shampoo. The first time I used it I understood why, it takes a pretty big bottle to fit all of that water into. This would be 4 oz of product if were a regular strength. The cleansing of the soap itself isn't while not bad isn't very good. It is not overly harsh and can be used twice a day with no problems. It just doesn't seem to me to have any lifting action. The smell is neutral and boring, but still present. 2 out of 5 seems very appropriate for this product.

I received the men science daily face wash and I have to say my skin is now even worse than it was before the face wash. I would avoid this product and go for something like Neutragena it works much better and is cheaper.

Best face wash for men, period

Anti-aging, anti-acne, my skin has seriously never looked better. I've suffered bad skin and acne my entire life and I've spent thousands of dollars over the years on other products that just made the problems worse. A friend recommended this brand to me and so I tried it. It took a few weeks to a month for me to notice a difference but WOW did it help. Also, it foams really nicely and is unscented, it also lasts a long time.

best stuff on the market

I have oily/acne prone skin and this has helped me alot. I use it with menscience face lotion, menscience scrub, sharps toner, and nature's cure benzoil peroxide and have seen an amazing improvement. The prices on their products are kinda high but this lasts for awhile because you don't need to use much. The gycolic acid is the key I think and it really helps shed the dead skin that can clog your pores. Research some of the main ingredients and you will see that the people making it really knew what they were doing. This stuff's the real deal.

I've tried many different products, from many different companies, and this one is the BEST. Very little fragrance, no skin tightening, not too strong - it just WORKS. Hard to find, but that's ok, since Amazon has it for a good price.

Great before shaving.

This seems to help prepare my face for a cleaner shave. It has menthol, but not a lot. It leaves a bit of a tingle, but it isn't overbearing like American Crew can be.

The Only Face Wash That Works!

This is the only face wash I have found that works. I have suffered from acne for 14 years and I have tried everything over the counter, and have also gone the prescription route with limited results. I have been using this product for the last year now and my skin is crystal clear. I don't know how they did it but this really works!!! No breakouts, no painful cysts. Spread the word about this product! It would be a shame for such a wonderful product to go off the market because no-one tried it. It WORKS!

Feels good after a shower

Good Facial Cleanser

Nivea offers several different types of facial cleansers for men, each with its own unique properties. The Energizing face scrub contains tiny abrasive particles that feel like sand to help to scrape dirt and dead skin off your face. The Oil Control formula is designed for oily skin. In truth, I use both cleansers (at separate times) and find they complement each other very well. Even though the Oil Control cleanser is not hypoallergenic, I find that the fragrance is very mild and pleasing and the wash is very gentle on the skin. Apply some warm water to your face, then pour some cleanser into the palm of your hand and apply it to your face until you have a nice lather going. The end result is a very refreshing feeling.

The only good thing was its fragrance. It smelled very masculine. That may also be a bad thing for your acne. I think it made my acne worse because of the fragrance. For a facial cleanser, it should be fragrance free. What works for me is Cetaphil, but that's just for me. What works for me, might not work on others.

The only face wash I use

I got one of these bottles for Christmas many years ago and I liked it so much that I bought them a bottle at a time from Target. But when I found them in a 4-pack with subscribe and save, I just had to get them from Amazon. Last year, I switched to Nivea's white bottle for Sensitive Skin. The problem was that too much of the face wash came out at once. I expended all four bottles pretty quickly. So I went back to these blue bottles and it's the only face wash I use.

Great Face Cleanser

The actual bottles received were not the same as pictured here, I specifically searched for this item because the "Oil Control" Purifying face wash I normally buy (pictured) became unavailable at local retailers. For those familiar with the original product packaging it does mention "marine plant extract" on the front. The actual product delivered looks nothing like the one pictured here, although I have confirmed that it still has that same marine plant extract additive listed in the formula ingredients on the back label.The specific name of the ingredient is "Fucus Vesiculosus Extract"I recommend this to those who have moderately oily facial skin especially in hotter climates since the extract seems to remove the excess oil from pores without drying out your face.

Now I'm stuck with 4 tubes of stuff that doesn't perform as advertised

I've had oily skin for as long as I can remember and I've tried several products claiming to control shine and oil. And this one has got to be the worst performing yet. In fact, I think the Nivea for Men Dual Cleanser ( I think that's the name) does better at controlling oil than this dedicated oil control cleanser. I'm using it in conjunction with the lotion which doesn't help much either, if at all. I'm going to finish up the supply as fast as I can and move on to something else. The oil control cleaner from Neutrogena works more effectively than this, however it does dry your skin more so pick your poison.
