I have extremely sensitive skin; it detects anything remotely 'bad' for it. Likely not a coincidence, I have a peculiar sensitivity to smells. I believe those often go hand in hand.To clear up my skin, I have used the term 'strip' to describe how I must have a cleanser work. Any moisturizing or non-stripping cleansers in the past simply meant break-outs . I know 'stripping' it wasn't the best theory, but that's what seemed to work. What I learned recently is what describes my need better, and that is to sanitize my skin.This cleanser seems to do the task perfectly. I have made several modifications to my religious skin care routine, and am making progress after 12 years of adult acne. This cleanser is inexpensive, anti-bacterial (instead of 'stripping'), and strangely gentle.It took me some time (10 days?) to get used to the smell. Now (3 weeks later) I don't mind it a bit. I use a wash rag (to aid in gentle exfoliation)which also seems to have helped my issue, and also helps reduce/eliminate waste because of its runny/watery consistency. I massage in all areas of my face for at least a full minute.Don't use it as an eye make-up remover (and I don't use waterproof make-up), and don't get it in your eyes. Other than that----absolutely perfect. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have *normal* skin!

Great for more than just the face. Cured my dandruff!

I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis (scalp, face) by a dermatologist and was told to use Selsun Blue (selenium sulfide) to treat it. After weeks of no relief (I also tried a pyrithione zinc dandruff shampoo with also no relief), I turned to the internet and found that tea tree oil was an alternative treatment for dandruff so I picked this up at my local Whole Foods (I was turned off of the tea tree shampoos they carried because they contained parabens). Within a week my dandruff disappeared! I have been dandruff-free for months now. I use this regularly (few times a week) to keep my scalp in check. I apply it only to the areas that were affected. This is fantastic for other itchy areas you may get on your body from time to time. Although this has not relieved the symptoms on my face, I am grateful to have at least part of my problem solved. Wonderful product!!

One major flaw

I really wanted to like this cleanser. There are several reasons why anyone should:+ It was $12 at the Vitamin Shoppe. On Amazon, its price usually fluctuates from $10 to $12, including shipping and handling. The bottle itself is 32 ounces. When you do the math, this is definitely a bargain. + On cosmeticsdatabase.com, this product receives a very low toxicity count, which is healthy, and thus good.+ It's 100% vegan. That wasn't a priority for me, but it still helps.+ It has this intoxicating, ginger-citrus aroma that makes washing a refreshing, pleasurable experience. And it looks like liquid gold.+ It has all these good products in it that helps your skin.+ Its watery texture made it gentle on my skin. And it makes a nice little lather, too.However, there are three cons that prevent me from recommending this product:- It watery texture also makes it run out faster. It's hard to keep scooping some into your hands to use on your face without having some of it slip between your fingers. I'm not sure how a 32 ounce supply will last, under these circumstances.- It burns A LOT when you get it in your eye, more than any cleanser has a right to. And it takes a while before it rinses out. So once you do get a searing pain in your eye(s), you have to blunder around in agony for a while until you can reach the sink faucet and clear the cleanser away.- Finally, and WORST OF ALL, THIS CLEANSER CONTAINS COCONUT OIL, WHICH CLOGS PORES. I knew this product was too good to be true. It smells amazing, has all these other nice ingredients in it, and has a great price. BUT it clogs pores. I started using it, and noticed my face breaking out. It was horrifying. Take it from someone who has given up conditioner because it might contain coconut oil--it is a terrible oil to expose your face to. I cannot stress enough how I hate this oil. It is terrible for the face and pores. Nothing can frustrate me more when it comes to my face.And so, I do not recommend this product. If it didn't have coconut oil in it, I would use it for life. However, it does, and so I will not.

Best Product For Skin Care

I started using this product approximately 7 years ago after reading an article promoting Desert Essence products. I have found it the best to handle any type skin. It does it all. Cleanses, conditions, and controls blemishes. It is concentrated and a little bit goes a long way. Your skin feels clean and healthy, not stripped and irritated as some other cleansers.I have always purchased it at the health food store in the smaller pump style at a fairly high price. Until I found it here on Amazon, I didn't realize it came it the large economy size. Price was great, shipping cost was more than reasonable, and I received the product quickly. At this price I can afford to use it for bathing as well. Great product at a fantastic price, need I say more?

Better than acne medications!

I'm 28, and I was complaining until a couple of months ago, until I started using this product, that I was STILL getting some cystic acne.. while starting to get a couple of gray hairs. Life's unfair, right? I've used just about every acne medication out there, including some of the more expensive ones, but they are all pretty much a combination of chemicals and one of two main acne ingredients: Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. The former doesn't seem to work at all on me, and the latter works while giving me super dry, scaley skin. So I tried this after I found it at Trader Joes, and I've been using it exclusively for about two months. No breakouts so far, and I think that's the longest I've gone in about 15 years without a breakout! The product itself IS watery compared to the gel or creams in other products, but I think part of my problem was the chemicals used in those products irritated my skin and actually MADE me break out, so I don't mind. I use it twice a day and my bottle is only halfway gone, so for the people complaining about the price, why? This could last you 4-10 months depending on how much you use it. Love it! I threw out my Neutrogena and Clearasil and my skin is thanking me. :)

I don't understand why everyone had such great results with this, it made my acne worse! I guess everyone's skin is different. My blackheads turned into whiteheads pretty fast while using this. Also, new ones came up on my forehead like crazy which hasn't happened to me for years.I looked at the ingredients and it contains castile soap and olive oil as the main ingredients. I was told by my doc that soap and oil is not good for acne.I also don't like the watery consistency of this stuff. You lose tons of the liquid down the drain when you pour it in your hands, and it doesn't lather either. Also leaves a weird filmy feeling on my skin.I'm glad somebody got some use out of this soap, just isn't for me. Back to the Cetaphil...

Trader Joes was out of this product that I have been useing for at least 10 years, so I went to Amazon only to be surpised how much money I could save buying it here.A little squirt and this stuff will suds up provided you with a deep clean without drying your skin out. The oils it contains seem to prevent the dry feel other cleaners leave behind.I have had oily skin since a teenager and wish I had this back then. I still fight with acne at age 50 but this product help keep a fresh smooth look. Buy this if your tired of harsh cleaaner to fight oily skin, it works like majic.

My Acne days are gone!

Ever since I was a teenager, I have had disgusting horrible acne. I was hoping that once those awkward puberty years were over, my acne would cease. Nope...it didn't. Actually it turned into cystic acne as well and I made the decision to go on Accutane when I was in my early twenties. Accutane kept me zit free for a couple of years but then gradually, the pimples reared their ugly heads again. So, I had to go back on Accutane in my early thirties and the same thing happened again. (fyi, you take Accutane for about 3 months). I just resorted to the fact that my face will always have zits and I became an expert at popping and removing them. Gross, I know. I started using this product in my mid-ish thirties and the first time I used it, my skin just felt cleaner. I have been using this for almost 5 years now, and I think it took a few weeks for my acne to cease and a few more for my skin to be COMPLETELY clear after the initial use. I just turned 40 and my skin looks better now than it did 20 years ago. Yes, this product is the reason why I do not break out anymore even when I use any kind of moisterizer. If you have dry skin, you have to use moisterizer. Actually, use moisterizer anyway. It's good for your skin. It's a great price for a great product. When you use it, try to leave it on your face for a minute before rinsing. Now I am getting my daugther to use it to get rid of those tiny white bumps on her skin. Will update on that in a month or so. Thank you Desert Essence for helping my face not look like a pepperoni pizza.

a MUST USE product

Ive struggled off and on with acne, dry skin patches and random oilyness and blemishes on my skin.. until I started to use this wash. I give my face a good scrub with it, using a "buff puff", let it sink in for a few seconds (the wash has tea tree oil, a natural antiseptic, that heals everything), and rinse. It, without fail, cleans deep down, removes acne, and simply leaves my face feeling clean and fresh. No residue at all. Recently, I ran out of body soap in the shower, and just started to use this wash all over. After a couple of weeks, I noticed that those "bumps" I always had on my elbows were gone! Its such a simple product, but it does everything, and I get tons of compliments on my complexion. This wash is my secret weapon.

It didn't do much for the first two weeks or so (because your face has to adjust to the product), but now I feel like it has been working. It does has a strong smell, but you'll get used to it. The face wash itself is pretty runny.Definately buy the 32 oz economy refill size since you'll get A LOT more for your money!Overall, I'd suggest it.

Pink & damaged - dangerous allergenic chemical applied???

I have used exfoliating cloths for decades and yet hadn't ever tried a 100% pure silk one but was excited to do so once I learned they exist. My order arrived promptly from Amazon. The packaging says it is 100% pure silk and hypoallergenic. The cloth looks well made. I decided to try it with just water as that is my most favorite usage with my other exfoliating cloths. While polishing my face, I found it to be more gentle yet still effective at exfoliating leaving my face only slightly pink. However, while using the cloth I started wondering what is that smell? yuch! I finally realized the smell was coming from the 100% natural pure silk cloth! I stopped using it on my face and tried rinsing it and washing it and still that smell! I shortly thereafter developed a headache and rash. You can easily smell that there is something to the cloth other than 100% pure silk! None of my silk clothing smells like that! I think the reviewer that said she thinks the cloth contains fiberglass as her face looks that way after using it, had a reaction to the chemical. The cloth seemed to be of household quality not cosmetical quality and is counting upon the chemical to get the job done. Silk is soften than the cotton, nylon, polyester, etc fibers typically used in these cloths. Customers, however, choose these cloths to have a natural chemical-free cleanse and exfoliation. Avoid! I recommend instead NuFountain® Microfiber Exfoliating Cloth For Face or Body.

Best Washcloth Ever

I love this Spasilk washcloth, I heard that silk is a natural fibre and great for exfoliating and massaging all types of skin. I have sensitive skin and after thoroughly soaking my washcloth and washing/massaging my face I felt comfortable, smooth and refreshed, my skin was glowing. I use it every morning and night and this towel dries quickly and stays fresh. My old cotton towel was always too thick, stayed wet and adsorbed odors. I will be buying more and will also buy some as gifts.

Ouch!

I don't typically have sensitive skin so I was surprised when I used this towel and how my face reacted. I used it with Cetaphil gentle face wash in the shower. I washed my face as normal noting that the towel felt harsh on my face. When I dried off my face started really burning. I put some moisturzer on but my face was a raw pink color. This towel must have fiber-glass in it! I used it once and never agin, threw it out.
